“I loved
staying in the dorm and going all around NYC.”
-- Yael Mendelson, Detroit, MI |
Summer Program
Drisha High School students live in dorms at the 92nd Street Y. Amenities
include a kosher kitchen, internet access, and piano practice rooms. Madrichot
(counselors) live with the students and accompany them to and from Drisha.
Year-Round Programs
Students receive home hospitality from families in the neighborhood around
Drisha. Madrichot escort the students to and from Drisha.
Extracurricular Activities
Located less than two blocks from Central Park in Manhattan, Drisha provides
participants with many unique New York experiences. During the summer
the students visit the park to play sports, games, and learn outdoors.
Activities include boat rides, Shakespeare in the Park productions, pool
parties and trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Jewish
Heritage, and Lower Manhattan.
During the winter, students ice-skate in Central Park, attend the ballet
in Lincoln Center, and tour the Jewish Tenement Museum on the Lower East
Side.
Chesed
An integral part of the High School Program is the opportunity to blend
Torah study with community service through the Dorot Program. Drisha students
befriend home-bound Jewish elderly through weekly visits. They package
and distribute food to the hungry and they brighten the experience of
the sick by painting a mural in a local hospital.
